Just like in so many mediums, theatre still has a long way to go in regards to LGBT incorporation, but the Dublin Gay Theatre Festival is aiming to move the process of inclusion along faster. From the challenges facing young gay men to the world of lesbian gangsters, the presence of suicide in the LGBT community to the story of lesbian lovers in the roaring 20s. No matter who you are, there was something for you. The Dublin Gay Theatre Festival was formed in , celebrating and marking the th anniversary of the birth of Oscar Wilde, the classic Dublin born and famously homosexual writer. The festival has many goals, but one that should be highlighted is its want to explore concepts of gay theatre and the development of communication paths between the theatre world and the gay community. It is the largest event of its type worldwide!

Pushing gay theatre forward
In the Arlington Hotel Temple Bar, Brian Merriman presented the event and the annual program that will be organized from the 7 th th of May. The two week long program contains twenty two plays, nightly free festival clubs, a play reading event and a seminar on gay theatre in places like Pantibar, The Front Lounge, Speak Easy, James Joyce Centre, Cobalt Cafe, and Teachers Club. This annual event -which was founded in to mark the th anniversary of the birth of Oscar Wilde- celebrates the contribution of gay people to theatre, past and present.
Artistic director Brian Merriman said: "New writing continues to dominate the selection process which also included visiting 50 productions at the Edinburgh Fringe. On this, Mr Merriman said it will "help us build mainstream audiences for such an innovative programme of work, as we meet the challenges to let audiences know that everyone is welcome at our festival". The festival was founded in to mark the th anniversary of the birth of Oscar Wilde, in his native city.
